The Back Bar at Top of the Hill

Chapel Hill, NC

Completed as part of the Top of the Hill Banquet Project, The Back Bar at Top of the Hill, was designed to offer a separate experience from the banquet facility and to function independently. The Back Bar includes a cask ale program with Firkin cooler and shares back-of-house systems with the adjacent banquet facility and restaurant. Located at the rear of the 1940’s theater shell, the bar uses the industrial components of the space to define the character of the new space. Existing systems and services were left exposed and this framework serves as the backdrop for the insertion of the new program elements. Sustainable materials and energy efficient lighting enhance the space and further emphasize the contrast between existing and new.
