Shelter Home

Lenoir, NC

Shelter Home is a residential care facility that serves those affected by domestic violence in a three-county area. Located in Lenoir, NC, the project included the renovation of a 4,300 square feet metal building and the construction of two additions that total 5,000 square feet. The design focused on creating an extremely secure facility that still presents a positive, welcoming image to the public. Shared public functions are located at the front, while more private living areas are located in a two- story, eight-bed addition at the rear. The building was designed to System Vision energy standards and included low maintenance materials such as cement siding, vinyl windows and a metal roof. Funding for the project was provided by the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency.
