Tyler’s Restaurant and Taproom

Durham, NC

Tyler’s Restaurant & Taproom are two complimentary establishments that share an 8,000 square foot space at the Historic American Tobacco Warehouse Complex.  The restaurant offers a bar menu for casual dining while the taproom focuses on recreation and socializing. The two facilities share a kitchen and back of house areas. A thirty foot cooler, located between the two spaces, offers sixty beers that are tapped directly into the adjacent back bars.

The rational organization of the historic industrial buildings forms the framework for the design and the new wood, metal and concrete elements reflect the simple taproom concept. The use of substantial materials, in conjunction with industrial lighting, results in a sensitive reinterpretation of the original brick and wood warehouse facility.
