Edenton Street UMC Garden Gallery
Raleigh, NCLocated between the Sanctuary and the circa 1940’s Witherspoon Building, the Garden Gallery creates a new formal “front door” for the large, downtown Congregation of Edenton Street United Methodist Church. The project links three key campus spaces - the Sanctuary, Commons and the central landscaped, courtyard and memorial garden. The building design matches the architecture of the adjacent structures with brick, cast stone accents and copper details . On the interior, decorative wood trusses, with custom pendant lighting, suggest the detailing of the adjacent sanctuary. A series of full glass doors, with arched transoms, provide a welcoming face to the public and a visual connection to the courtyard beyond. The courtyard is the symbolic center of the campus and offers a secure, natural area for quiet contemplation and remembrance.
