Osage Mill

Bessemer City, NC

The Historic Osage Mill Redevelopment Project includes 139 one, two, and three bedroom loft-style apartment units and 30,000 square feet of retail, commercial, and community space. Constructed in the late 1800’s, and located in the heart of downtown Bessemer City, the 250,000 square feet facility was originally a textile mill developed by John A. Smith, the founder of Bessemer City. At full occupancy, the project will bring more than 400 new residents to Bessemer City – a 7% increase in the City’s population. It will increase foot traffic and foster renewed economic growth in the surrounding community. The project was funded through a combination of state and federal housing and historic tax credit incentives and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
